The management of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, says the federal government has started fine tuning arrangements to restructure and add more values to the scheme.
The Director General, DG, of NYSC, Brigadier-General Nnamdi T. Okore-Affia, disclosed this while addressing NYSC staff in Owerri, as part of the programme lined up for his three-day official visit to Imo State.
“NYSC has begun measures to partner with relevant agencies and firms to set up skill acquisition programmes for serving corps members with a view to making them self reliant and job creators after their service year”, the NYSC boss said.
He noted that the scheme introduced 38 years ago has become more relevant now in fostering stronger national unity and integration, stressing that steps would be taken to address the constraints facing Imo NYSC, including release of promotions to deserving staff.
Welcoming the NYSC boss earlier, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Chinwe Ojukwu, listed dilapidated office complex, leaking roof, rickety doors and windows, as well as what she called “ranshackled facilities” as some of the problems facing her office.
While being particularly irked by lack of standard and conducive NYSC Orientation Camp at Umudi, Mrs. Ojukwu also lamented over the halls of residence, poor power and water supply, and passionately appealed to the DG for assistance.
