One of the major concern of people today is trying to find out how they can safeguard themself against identity theft. Here are some tips that can be of help

1. Use strong password: When choosing your password, use alphanumeric (numbers and letters together), upper and lower case, signs such as #,%,%,! etc. Keep your  password away from your computer or public places. Also, it is advisable to change your password once in a while and avoid using common name such as "password”, “first  name", "nickname" etc.

2. Secure your pin: Avoid using your debit/credit card on website that doesn’t have (https://) or padlock sign in the browser. Using your card on such website open you
up to fraudsters. Also, use your card on website you trust and those who have credibility.

3. Avoid putting your home address on the internet, especially on social network. Fraudsters could use it to trace or defraud you.

4. When you browse on public computer such as cybercafé, hotels, library etc. ensure that you logout after your browsing and clear the cache or browser history.

5. Beware of FREE downloading site. Some of the free download software come with viruses.

6. Use a strong antivirus. Most free antivirus software are not reliable. Ensure that you use antivirus that has internet security. Also, update your antivirus
regularly. I recommend Kaspersky, Norton, and AVG.

7. Don’t click on links anyhow. It is better to copy the link and paste it in your browser.

8. Avoid opening unsolicited email. Scammers send email with great headline. Don’t open it if you don’t know the sender. They might use it to hack your email password.

9. Don’t enter your pin or password in the presence of anybody. If for any reason you do, ensure that you change the password as soon as possible.

10. Be careful when using wireless connections in public place.
