As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to celebrate this year’s World Oral Health Day, the Nigerian Dental Association, NDA, has blamed the poor oral health status of the average Nigerian on inadequate workforce available to meet the dental needs of the population.
NDA President, Dr. Olufemi Orebanjo, at a briefing, weekend, in Lagos, listed other factors plaguing oral health to include; low level of awareness, poverty, lack of access, cultural, myth and fallacies.
He suggested that companies, which support oral health as part of their corporate social responsibility should be encouraged through tax incentives, while primary oral health care should be categorised as primary health in NHIS and capitation be paid to dental clinics to cover primary oral care.
