Samson Siasia rosefrom a meeting with the players and declared “we are now united and looking forward to the game on Sunday.”
He had to call the meeting to sort out problems that arose following the seeming rebellion of Mikel Obi, Vincent Enyeama and Victor Anichebe. The trio protested against flight arrangement on Wednesday, fuming at the football federation for hiring a flight that would stop over in Congo to refuel.
Enyeama was said to have frowned at their departure date and wondered why officials did not fix their departure two days later. They refused to join the bus to the airport and eventually delayed flight for about three hours.
We gathered that the players expressed fear about the safety of the chartered flight and that Obi, Enyeama and Anichebe were the only ones who could voice out the agitation and they did so through their actions. Team spirit was affected and Siasia had to call for meeting. He asked the players to feel free to speak their minds. Issues, we gathered, were raised and settled.
“We retraced a few steps backward for us to move forward,” Siasia said of the success of the meeting. He spoke to this Reporter on phone. “We are fine now. The feeling in camp is fine. The hotel is good and we hope for the best on Sunday.”
