Tactical is a word that is often used in football circles especially among the Coaches when they plot their graph of winning. But beyond the men who shout themselves hoarse on the sidelines, tactical has been given another meaning by administrators who use it to retire government money. Whenever you hear of money meant for tactical, it could be money meant for a native doctor to conjure magic for them to win, or make their opponents best players to be injured before the match.
Tactical could as well mean money meant for hospitality to the referees or even the fans to cheer them to victory. Rain doctors also benefit from monies meant for tactical use. Funnily enough, the money runs into millions of Naira and nobody can query it. There is a story of a Director that got tired of allocating millions to Native doctors that he threatened to stop it.
The Native Doctors threatened to give him elephantiasis of the scrotum if he did not release the money. And the man succumbed to their threat. Out here, it would not be out of place for rain to fall in Rivers State heavily now.
After all, that is why it is called Rivers State. Strangely enough, the rains have behaved themselves even in this rainy season.
Many had thought that rains would disrupt games but I learnt that some powerful rain doctors have been settled and they are at work. I have only seen showers accompanied by breeze which was said to be caused by the rain makers to ‘scatter the rain’. Rivers have done their homework and the men who ‘draw’ rain so far have delivered. We all look forward to the heavens as the 17th National Sports Festival comes to an end on Saturday.
