The West African rivalry of two Anglophone countries is set to renew this summer in London when the Black Stars of Ghana take on take the Super Eagles of Nigeria. A London-based West African derby will likely take place on August 9th between the two giants. Both countries’ FAs are in talks but yet to confirm the fixture. Ghana FA’s President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, was at a CAF meeting in Cairo, Egypt, when Goal.com reached him for confirmation and he hinted at the international friendly.
The match would be significant as the Super Eagles will look out to gather their entire armoury to seek revenge for a string of defeats at the hands of the Black Stars. The last friendly between the West African powerhouses dates back to 2007, when the World Cup quarter-finalists won 4-1.
Media reports said that if the deal with the Nigerian FA fails to sail through, Turkey could be a replacement.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars have a date with South Korea in Seoul on June 7, four days after a 2012 Africa Nations Cup qualifier with Congo Brazzaville at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The four-time Africa champions are currently ranked first in Africa based on the monthly FIFA rankings while Nigeria sits at the fourth spot.
