Areas of Lagos State on Sunday night and Monday morning clashed, leaving at least two persons dead and many residents of the areas injured. No fewer than five cars were also damaged in the fracas.

PUNCH METRO gathered that the youth, who had for so long engaged in a supremacy argument, initially clashed on Sunday night when one of them from Ishaga was stabbed and cut with machete by another youth from Toyin.

It was gathered that policemen from Iju Police Division arrived the scene around 10.30pm and prevented the clash from escalating. The injured person was later taken to a hospital where he died thereafter.

Youths from Ishaga subsequently besieged Toyin Street on Monday morning to avenge the death of their colleague. However, Toyin Street youths got wind of the planned attack and were battle ready. It was gathered that in the free-for-all that followed, weapons of every kind were used and at the end of the battle, another youth was killed. Many of the residents who were caught unaware were injured.

Some cars that were parked and other that were moving on the road were smashed by the rampaging youths.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Yakubu Alkali, immediately drafted both riot and regular policemen to the area to stop the carnage.

“The policemen are still there and will remain there until peace is fully restored to the area. For now, three suspects have been arrested and are working with the police to unravel the cause of the melee in the area. The situation is currently under control,” he said.
