I hope many pastor skip that verse because many are money oriented than Preaching the word of God. Let them first read that verse may be they will change.

Materialism is wandering from object to object in a quest for happiness, but always ending up frustrated by unfulfillment and repeated disappointments. The pursuit of materialism is described in Scripture (Isa 55:2) “Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy?”


WHAT ARE THE DANGERS OF MATERIALISM?
Materialism can makes those who are covetous slave and be there god.
We can be enticed into doing things or going places we shouldn’t. The prosperity we long for is captivating; it can both entice us and enslave us if our motives are not in line with God’s desires.

Also materialism can take the place of god in our lives. No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. (Matthew 6:24) Jesus says we can have only one master. We live in a materialistic society where many people serve money. They spend all their lives collecting and storing it, only to die and leave it behind. Their desire for money and what it can buy far outweighs their commitment to God and spiritual matters. Whatever you store up, you will spend much of your time and energy thinking about. Don’t fall into the materialistic trap, because “the love of money is at the root of all kinds of evil” (1 Timothy 6:10). Can you honestly say that God, and not money, is your master? One test is to ask which one occupies more of your thoughts, time, and efforts.

Jesus calls us to find satisfaction and rest in Him, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Real satisfaction is only found in Jesus. When people come to Him, they are fully satisfied. “I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” (Phil 4:12-13) And again, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst.” (John 4:13-14)

Prayer : May the Spirit of GOD help us subdue our materialistic desire that does not bring glory to your glorious name and let us focus of heavenly treasures that will bring honor and glory to your name in Jesus name (Amen)
